Chrome floor lamp with flexible gooseneck, 1970

An extraordinary vintage floor lamp that impresses with its slender silhouette, high-contrast combination of materials, and strikingly shaped lamp head. The chrome-plated upright tube transitions into a black, ribbed gooseneck, at the end of which sits an organically shaped lampshade made of black lacquered metal. The combination of clean geometric lines and soft, flowing forms gives the lamp a distinctive aesthetic characteristic of the functional lighting design of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The contrast between the shiny chrome, the deep black metal, and the white interior of the lampshade is particularly appealing. The compact, round base emphasizes the minimalist design and makes the lamp appear exceptionally delicate despite its height.

The floor lamp is in good vintage condition. The black base and the chrome frame show slight, age-related signs of wear that underscore the authentic character of the original. The black lacquered lamp head is also well-preserved.

The flexible gooseneck works perfectly and allows for individual adjustment of the lamp head. This makes it possible to direct the light specifically to a certain area. The on/off switch is integrated directly into the lamp socket and is easily accessible.

The unique construction combines the functionality of a classic reading lamp with the sculptural impact of a standalone design object. The long, slender chrome shaft forms an exciting counterpoint to the curved gooseneck and the almost teardrop-shaped lamp head.

Thanks to its flexible adjustability, the floor lamp is excellently suited as a reading light next to a lounge chair or leather armchair, as targeted lighting in a living area, or as a stylish accent in a study.

Its minimalist design language harmonizes particularly well with Mid-Century Modern, Space Age, and contemporary interiors.
