Martin Stoll leather lounge chair for Stoll Giroflex, 1960

This swivel lounge chair impresses with its curved design made of multi-layered, glued rosewood, which meets voluminous, hand-upholstered leather cushions, resulting in a combination of elegance and seating comfort that remains convincing to this day. The rosewood veneer shows an exceptionally lively, warm grain and is in fantastic condition; the surface shines with the typical deep luster that makes this noble wood so desirable. The leather is also in excellent condition, supple and well-maintained, with no notable signs of wear.

As part of a careful restoration, all upholstery buttons were replaced and the gas spring of the backrest was exchanged, allowing the backrest to now recline slightly. The frame with its original chrome casters is fully preserved; the chair is fully rotatable, making it as functional as it is aesthetically a real highlight for any room that appreciates timeless design and first-class material quality.

This lounge chair was designed by Martin Stoll for the traditional Swiss manufacturer Stoll Giroflex, whose history dates back to 1872: at that time, Albert Stoll I opened a chair factory in Koblenz, Switzerland, which initially produced bentwood chairs for cafés, hotels, and shops. In 1919, his son Albert Stoll II consistently focused the company on office chairs, and it was from this tradition of craftsmanship that this lounge chair emerged in the 1960s, clearly oriented toward the design icon of Charles and Ray Eames, yet developing an independent, unmistakably European character.
