Artemide Vicario Lounge Chair by Vico Magistretti, 1970

This Vicario armchair was designed by Vico Magistretti, one of the most influential Italian designers of the 20th century, for the renowned Milanese manufacturer Artemide. The model is one of the defining examples of Italian plastic design of the 1970s, combining sculptural form with technical innovation.

The armchair is in very good vintage condition with only minimal signs of wear, consistent with the authentic character of the original. The embossing "S.p.A. Artemide Milano – Modello Vicario – Design Vico Magistretti – Made in Italy" is clearly legible and confirms originality and provenance.

The monolithic body made of high-gloss lacquered plastic shows a flowing, organic silhouette: backrest and seat merge seamlessly, the strongly formed legs give the armchair a striking, almost archaic presence. The rich, deep red lacquer emphasizes the sculptural effect and makes the Vicario a true statement piece for both modern and classically furnished rooms.

The Vicario was designed by Vico Magistretti in 1970, and production by Artemide began in 1971.

Vico Magistretti (1920–2006) is considered one of the most important Italian architects and designers of the post-war period. In his designs, he combined clear constructive ideas with innovative materials. The Vicario was created during a particularly experimental phase of his collaboration with Artemide, one of the most important protagonists of modern Italian design.
