This set of 4 Solaria armchairs by Tito Agnoli for Arrben thrives on the consistent use of a single material: robust black saddle leather forms not only the seat and backrest but defines almost the entire construction of the chairs. The wide, straight side panels provide an exciting contrast to the freely tensioned, slightly curved seat and the reclined backrest.

The design unfolds its particular architectural effect especially when placed in a group. The high, closed side sections give the chairs an almost sculptural presence, while the slender armrests and the open-ended seat design visually lighten the construction. A characteristic example of 1970s Italian furniture design. The attribution of the Solaria model to Tito Agnoli and Arrben, as well as its creation in the 1970s, is also documented in various design archives and market sources.

The black saddle leather is in good, authentic vintage condition. It shows slight signs of wear and use consistent with age, as well as a subtle patina. The evolution of the leather is visible, particularly along individual edges and areas subject to heavier use. These marks do not detract from the overall impression but rather underscore the original character of the material.

Two chairs feature covers over the side screw connections, while on two examples the screw points remain visible. 

Tito Agnoli reduces the Solaria to a few, clearly defined planes and makes the leather itself a structural design element. Particularly striking are the closed side sections, the slim tapering armrests, and the seat stretched between the construction. Visible seams and attachment points remain part of the design and emphasize its artisanal character.

Despite its strict geometry, the Solaria does not appear heavy. The slightly springy seat and the reclined backrest ensure pleasant seating comfort, making the model an interesting choice as a dining chair as well as for a meeting or conference table.

The Italian-Peruvian architect and designer Tito Agnoli (1931–2012) studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan and worked in the circles of, among others, Gio Ponti and Carlo De Carli. His work includes furniture and lighting for various prominent Italian manufacturers; his precise handling of construction and material is characteristic.
